About Us
The Diskit Sales Division of Perry
Chemical and Manufacturing has been in the sanding pad business since 1963
when it entered into an agreement with the original patent holder. Diskit
Sales provides sales and marketing services for a proprietary line of
sanding pads manufactured by Perry Chemical for distribution to the auto
aftermarket, industrial, woodworking and other industries requiring the
use of sanding pads for precise control of the sanding operation. Diskit
has been widely accepted as a high quality sanding pad with excellent wear
and performance characteristics.
Diskit has long been known for its die
cast metal hubs, which was introduced in the mid 1960’s. This hub is the
strongest on the market and can withstand the most severe and abusive
environment. Diskit distributes the die cast hub with a variety of designs
including the flex edge design. Pad sizes range from 3” diameter to 8”
diameter with various levels of hardness and various face materials for
use with adhesive, PSA backed sand paper, looped backed sandpaper and
non-woven abrasives.
In 2000, Diskit introduced a product line that
focused on a polymer hub. This version provides the capability for dust
free sanding and low profile pads. These pads are designed for medium duty
service. These pads provide excellent performance at an economical price.
Sanding sticks were also introduced in 2000 to replace the paint sticks
currently used in most body shops.
Perry Chemical and Manufacturing is the
largest manufacturer of back-up sanding pads in the United States and most
likely worldwide. With an annual capacity of nearly 3 million pads per
year, Perry Chemical supplies sanding pads to the largest OEMs and
distributors throughout the U.S. These customers rely on Perry Chemical’s
expertise in the design and molding of these pads. The proprietary
chemical technology allows Perry Chemical to provide full line of products
from firm to soft and with a full range of face materials without losing
physical properties.
Warren P. Thayer Jr., a chemical engineer, founded
Perry Chemical and Manufacturing in 1961. In 1963, he licensed the patent
to manufacture polyurethane sanding pads. Over the years, Perry Chemical
has used their strong technical base to become the leader in the
production of sanding pads. Perry Chemical is the only sanding pad
manufacturer that specifically blends its own proprietary chemicals. The
proprietary polyurethane foam formulations provide superb adhesion between
the face, foam and plate or hub assembly. The foam formulation is unique
to the industry and provides a high abrasion resistance during
application. With six base formulations, Perry Chemical can tailor the
foam to meet a customer’s requirements for weight, foam hardness, face
material, and strength to meet the ever-increasing need for higher rpms.
The development of many different designs of sanding pads is our
specialty. With our highly equipped machine shop, Perry Chemical
fabricates 99% of all the tooling required for our manufacturing process.
Our tool room is equipped with the latest CNC lathe and mill equipment,
which allows for reduced development times for a customer’s requested
sanding pads.A dedicated development area provides a development to
production mentality during the development process. Though sanding pads
can be developed in time frames as short as one week, obtaining special
raw materials can increase the lead time on new products.
Perry Chemical
provides the highest quality pads in the market. From its fully equipped
Chemical Laboratory to its sanding pad Performance Testing laboratory,
Perry continually monitors the quality of raw materials and finished pads
to insure their performance in application. The chemical laboratory is
equipped with a Gel Permeation Chromatography unit, Fourier Transform
Infrared Spectrophotometer, Brookville Viscometer and other laboratory
equipment necessary to monitor quality and identify process anomalies. Our
Performance Testing laboratory is equipped to perform all the industry
standard performance tests such as RPM, face peel, hub bond, face run-out
and flatness, durometer, etc. We are able to test sanding pads to 30,000
rpm with various ramp configurations. During the manufacturing process
over 1% of the sanding pads are tested to destruction to insure the
performance of the pad. In addition, the sanding pads are 100% visually
inspected at three points in the manufacturing process to insure visually
acceptable and long performance of our pads. Our efforts have resulted in
less than 0.04% of our sanding pads being returned for replacement each
year.
Our manufacturing process is constructed to provide efficiency for
the production of all levels of orders. The process equipment is located
for optimum utilization and flexibility so that the wide range of products
we provide can be supplied on a monthly time schedule. The expertise of
our production personnel continues to be the cornerstone of the company.
Their job experience ensures the correct manufacturing techniques are
utilized during the fabrication and packaging of the customer’s product.
We provide a wide variety of packaging configurations for the delivery of
the sanding pads ranging from bulk pack to point-of-purchase sale. Our
technical and purchasing personnel can assist in the design and
procurement of specialized packaging to meet the customer’s needs.
Diskit Sales and Perry Chemical are dedicated to providing the best service to our customers and innovative ideas in the
development of sanding pads.
